Guide to Canada's Energy Efficiency Regulations

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) has launched a stakeholder feedback form to gather insight regarding our current energy efficiency reporting process. Please fill out the feedback form to help us evaluate and improve on our compliance program. The deadline to provide input is December 8, 2024, 11:59 PM (Eastern Standard Time).

Canada’s Energy Efficiency Act (Act) and Energy Efficiency Regulations (the Regulations)

All regulated products must meet federal energy efficiency standards to be imported into Canada or shipped from one province to another for the purpose of sale or lease. The Regulations continue to apply to these products if they are incorporated into a larger unit or machine, even when that unit or machine is an unregulated product.

Energy efficiency regulations by province

Some provinces also have their own energy efficiency regulations for many of the federally regulated products.
