NEW: The Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program income thresholds have been revised to account for inflation. Please use the table above to check your eligibility.
*Figures are after-tax
*This table should only be used to check your eligibility. Household income verification will take place at a later stage of the application process.
How to calculate after-tax household income
For the purposes of this program, after-tax income is calculated as follows:
- Refer to your 2024 income tax return, line 23600 (net income) and subtract line 43500 (total taxes payable).
- If you have a spouse (or common-law partner), do the same calculation for your spouse using their tax return.
- Next, add your after-tax income with the after-tax income of your spouse or common-law partner to determine your household after-tax income.
- Then compare your after-tax household income to the applicable amount in the table above.
How to read the table
- Calculate your after-tax household income.
- Find your province in the top row.
- Find your household size in the first column (this includes you as the applicant, your spouse or common-law partner, if applicable, and any dependants supported by household income).
- Look for the box in the table where your province and household size meet; this is your household after-tax income limit (maximum amount for program eligibility).
Eligible
- If your after-tax household income is equal to or less than the after-tax median income applicable to your province and household size, you are eligible to apply for the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program.
Example 1: individual
- Nalini lives in Alberta on their own (single person household).
- Nalini’s income is $42,000 after-tax.
- Their income is less than the median income for a single person household living in Alberta ($48,760).
- Nalini is eligible to apply for the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program.
Not eligible
- If your after-tax household income is more than the after-tax median income applicable to your province and household size, you are not eligible for the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program.
- You may want to consider applying for other financial incentives being currently offered.
Example 2: family
- Joe lives in Quebec with his spouse and two children (four- person household).
- Joe has an income of $85,500 after-tax and his spouse has an income of $70,000 after-tax.
- Their combined after-tax income is ($85,500+$70,000) for total of $155,500.
- This is more than the median income for a household of four living in Quebec ($128,800). Therefore, Joe and his spouse are not eligible for the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program.
- Joe may want to consider applying for other financial incentives being currently offered.
