Some retrofits under the Canada Greener Homes Grant required choosing an eligible product from the approved list.
The chosen equipment must have been selected from the applicable eligible product list:
- windows and doors
- ground source heat pumps
- air source heat pumps
- cold climate air source heat pumps
- heat pump water heaters
- gas-fired boilers (for northern and off-grid communities only)
- gas-fired furnaces (for northern and off-grid communities only)
- oil-fired boilers (for northern and off-grid communities only)
- oil-fired furnaces (for northern and off-grid communities only)
It was recommended to learn about products and equipment eligibility criteria and consult the list of eligible products before starting your upgrades.
All products must be purchased in Canada. Online purchases are eligible only if they were ordered from a distributor located in Canada.
Note: Regular quarterly updates to the Canada Greener Homes Grant searchable product list occurred in in March, June, September, and December of each year. All updates were made to ensure homeowners had access to grants for all products available that meet the performance criteria set by the initiative. These updates also acknowledge innovation and advancements made by manufacturers as they improve technology performance for new models. All eligible product lists are available in an online searchable format, linked from the Canada Greener Homes Grant website.
Windows and doors
To receive a grant, homeowners had to purchase windows and doors that are ENERGY STAR® certified and appear on the lists included here. ENERGY STAR certified means that the model meets or exceeds the ENERGY STAR certification levels. Each qualified model comes with a temporary label showing that the unit is ENERGY STAR certified.
Do not remove the ENERGY STAR labels until after your post-retrofit evaluation. These labels help your energy advisor confirm that the product you have installed is ENERGY STAR certified.
Consult the lists of windows and doors to find an eligible ENERGY STAR certified model.
- ENERGY STAR certified windows ($125 per rough opening)
- ENERGY STAR certified sliding glass doors ($125 per rough opening)
- ENERGY STAR certified hinged doors, sidelites and transoms ($125 per rough opening)
- ENERGY STAR MOST EFFICIENT windows ($250 per rough opening)
- ENERGY STAR MOST EFFICIENT sliding glass doors ($250 per rough opening)
Mechanical systems
Mechanical systems include:
- ground source heat pumps
- air source heat pumps
- cold climate air source heat pumps
- heat pump water heaters
- furnaces (eligible for northern and off-grid community residents only)
- boilers (eligible for northern and off-grid community residents only)
Find your product
It was recommended to consult the following lists to ensure that the product was eligible for a grant. Search by AHRI number (ground source heat pumps, air source heat pumps, and cold climate air source heat pumps) or ENERGY STAR Unique ID (heat pump water heaters) to yield the most accurate results.
- eligible ground source heat pumps – full system and pump replacement
- eligible air source heat pumps and cold climate air source heat pumps
- eligible cold climate air source heat pumps – Quebec and Nova Scotia only
- eligible heat pump water heaters
Furnaces and boilers are available exclusively for northern and off-grid communities that are not connected to the North American electricity grid or natural gas network. Search by ENERGY STAR Unique ID to yield the most accurate results.
- eligible residential gas-fired boilers
- eligible residential gas-fired furnaces
- eligible gas-fired furnaces for mobile homes on permanent foundations
- eligible residential oil-fired boilers
- eligible residential oil-fired furnaces
Canada Greener Homes Initiative
- Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program: helps low- to median-income homeowners switch from oil heating to an eligible electric heat pump system. Details vary by province and territory.
- Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program: helps low- to median-income homeowners and tenants reduce their energy bills and greenhouse gas emissions through no-cost home retrofits, delivered through provincial and territorial partners, with additional support for Indigenous organizations.
