Our research and development (R&D) in this area focuses on converting carbon dioxide (CO2) into high value chemicals such as propylene and acetic acid, which are widely used in petrochemicals, food, and intermediate chemical industries.
Our areas of focus
We explore more efficient CO2 utilization pathways while avoiding the use of high greenhouse gas (GHG) intensity hydrogen produced from fossil-based sources. Conversion processes, which use our developed catalysts, will be developed and assessed for scaling up and further development into continuous, large-scale applications. The developed catalysts and processes will be assessed based on their performance and selectivity towards the desired products.
Specifically, our areas of focus are:
- developing and testing catalysts for the reaction of CO2 with methane to produce acetic acid, and evaluating and optimizing the process conditions
- developing novel catalysts for reforming and oxidative dehydrogenation of light alkanes with CO2 to produce propylene and syngas, a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen
