Methane Measurement and Mitigation Funding Call

-
Eligibility and Scope
- Question: Can projects involve the following organizations?
Answer:- Federal research labs: Yes, projects in collaboration with federal laboratories are eligible but preference will not be given on the basis of federal participation. Projects will be required to clearly articulate in the application how the collaboration will address specific technical R&D challenges and ensure relevancy and alignment between industry and federal interests. The roles and responsibilities of the parties and the terms of the collaborator’s participation in the project must be clearly identified and may require a separate agreement.
- International/foreign organizations/Canadian subsidiary of an internationally-based company: Yes, but the lead applicant for the project must be a legal entity validly incorporated and registered in Canada. While some project activities can take place outside of Canada where necessary, the project must have tangible benefits to Canada and preference will be given to projects with activities taking place in Canada.
- Consortium: Yes, but the group needs to identify an organization to be the lead applicant and include the rest of the consortium members within the application. The lead applicant is the organization that would manage any potential future funding agreement with NRCan, and would be responsible for the distributions of funds to cover activities by project partners, where applicable. Please describe the other members of the consortium in the Teams and Partners section of the Expression of Interest (EOI) form.
- Question: Do projects need to involve the development/demonstration of novel technologies, or can they also include the novel application of existing technologies?
Answer:- Projects being considered under this funding call can include the application of existing technologies to different sources in a novel manner (i.e. at a Technology Readiness Level of at least 5). For example, a project could consist of taking a sensor currently used for ground-based measurements, and adapting it for use with an air-based vehicle for characterization of emissions that are difficult to reach from the ground.
- Question: Can a project that looks to reduce methane slip from a source other than stationary engines be considered for funding?
Answer:- The scope of the funding call covers projects that aim to reduce methane slip from stationary combustion engines. Methane slip from other sources, such as catalytic heaters and flares, are not eligible for consideration under this funding call.
- Question: Based on the information in the Applicant Guide, I don’t believe that I’m eligible for this call. Where can I find more information on federal support for clean technology innovation?
Answer:- For information about federal support for clean technology, please contact the Government of Canada’s Clean Growth Hub. The Clean Growth Hub can best direct you to any appropriate government funding or services to advance your project idea. Please note that the Hub itself is not a funding program and does not influence final program decisions.
