Steps on how to apply for a Green Freight Program Stream 1 Grant

Review the eligibility criteria
Review the eligible criteria to ensure that the applicant and the vehicles meet the eligibility criteria for a Green Freight Program Stream 1 grant.

Review the What can be claimed pages to ensure all activities are eligible.

Complete fleet energy assessment
Conduct a fleet energy assessment (self-assessment) or purchase one from a third-party assessor. Follow the Natural Resources Canada fleet energy assessment criteria and guidelines when conducting a self-assessment or a third-party assessment. Complete the online application form
To begin, go to the Transportation and Fuels Decarbonisation Programs portal. There, you can create or access your profile to start completing the online application form.
Once logged into the portal, download the following application documents:
- The Applicant’s Attestation; and
- The Device Purchase and Installation Table (for retrofit application only).

Gather supporting documentations
Gather the documents and information required to complete and submit an application:
- Documentation regarding the legal status of the organization
- Copy of your Fleet Energy Assessment; and
- Invoices and proof of payment.
Additional documents for an application for a Truck/Trailer Fuel-Saving Retrofit device:
- Signed letter from the company responsible for installing the device that confirms completion and payment of the installation.
- The Device Purchase and Installation Table, filled out; and
- Proof of other government funding or private funding (if applicable).
Once your application package is ready

Submit
A complete application package can be submitted through the Transportation and Fuels Decarbonization Programs portal and will consist of:
- A completed online application form;
- Supporting documentation; and
- An attestation dated and signed by a duly authorized officer.

Please ensure all pertinent documentation and information is provided, otherwise the application will automatically be rejected.
Confirmation Message
After the application is submitted in the portal, a confirmation message will appear on your screen to confirm receipt of your application by the Program. You will then be able to follow the status of your application using the portal.
Important notes
- Any supporting documentation must be saved and submitted in PDF format. For security reasons, the portal cannot accept Zip files.
- The proof of payment must demonstrate that the device has been paid in full, including a device that is fully paid using the Applicant's line of credit or credit card. A loan from a bank or a private lender will not be accepted until the credit product has been paid off.
- The contact information provided on the application form must belong to a representative of the applicant entity listed in the application form.
- To ensure confidentiality, transparency, and to avoid potential conflicts of interest, third-party entities can no longer apply for a GFP Stream 1 grant on behalf of applicants. All communications, including the application process, must be conducted by a representative of the applicant entity.
- To be eligible for the Truck/Trailer Equipment Retrofit Device Grant, the applicant’s fleet must undergo a Fleet Energy Assessment before they purchase any new fuel saving device(s) and the assessment must analyze and recommend the device(s) that the Applicant plans to purchase.
- An applicant can submit multiple applications to Stream 1 and does not have to wait to receive a funding decision notification before submitting a new application to the Program.
