Post-combustion CO2 capture processes and transformative supercritical CO2 power cycle technologies

Project location: CanmetENERGY Ottawa, Ottawa, ON

Timeline: 3 years (2019 to 2022)

Program: Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS)

Project description

Our team focuses on testing and analyzing existing post-combustion carbon capture technologies and CO2 liquefaction processes, especially with respect to energy penalties and the adverse effects of impurities in the flue gas on these capture processes. We are working with a number of collaborators in order to further test and de-risk post-combustion capture technologies for industrial applications.

We are also advancing supercritical CO2 cycles with carbon capture, in collaboration with academia and US companies. This aspect of the project includes developing and demonstrating CanmetENERGY’s proprietary G2 technology, testing and de-risking the main components of this technology, and providing technical support to a large-scale supercritical CO2 power cycle technology demonstration in the US.
