Enhancing the sustainability of bioenergy for the future of Canadians
Our areas of focus
CanmetENERGY Ottawa’s Bioenergy program is focused on de-risking biomass supply and bio-refinery process development. We seek to:
- de-risk the biomass supply: characterize, categorize, and map all Canadian biomass residues by 2030; develop storage, handling, and pre-treatment protocols to meet the needs of industrial applications; and develop advanced conversion processes
- develop bio-refinery processes: establish bio-refinery process guidelines, standards, and supporting databases to improve efficiencies, while facilitating scale-up and commercialization of advanced thermochemical technologies to grow the production of biofuels, bioenergy, and high-value bio-products
