Stream 1 provides funding towards the purchase and installation of a set list of new fuel-saving retrofit devices for trucks and trailers.
To be eligible:
- The Applicant and their fleet vehicle must be eligible;
- The Applicant’s fleet must undergo a Fleet Energy Assessment before any new fuel saving retrofit device(s) is purchased;
- The device(s) must be recommended by the Fleet Energy Assessment; and
- The device(s) must be installed and paid in full.
Eligible fuel-saving retrofit devices
Eligible devices and the maximum grant amount per device are listed and described in the tables below.
Aerodynamics Retrofits

| Trailer Top and Side Fairing Kit | A device attached on the top and underside of a trailer to reduce air flow and turbulence for weather and wind-sensitive loads. | 50% up to max of $2,000 per device |
| Trailer Fairings / Side Skirt | A device installed on the underside of a trailer to address aerodynamic drag on trailers to reduce air flow by preventing wind from ducking in underneath. | 50% up to max of $1,500 per device |
| Tractor-Trailer Gap Reducer | Tractor-to-trailer gap closer device that can be attached either to the trailer or the tractor to minimize the gap and reduce air turbulence. | 50% up to a max of $2,500 per device |
| Wheel Covers | Devices inserted into the wheel of all tires to streamline the airflow around the tires and improve overall fuel efficiency strategy. | 50% up to max of $250 per device |
| Wheel Fairings kit | Devices that are mounted between and behind the wheels of the tractor to streamline the airflow around the rotating tires and direct airflow as it leaves the tractor, improving aerodynamics. | 50% up to max of $1,500 per device |
Anti-idling Retrofits

Auxiliary Power Units (APU) Retrofits

Tire Retrofits

| Telematics device |
An integrated digital platform that tracks real-time vehicle data using a mix of sensors, GPS technology, onboard diagnostic codes alerts and reporting analytics to enhance overall fleet performance. To be eligible, these comprehensive fleet management systems must improve driver and truck safety, streamline maintenance and increase fleet operational and fuel efficiency. Note: Basic asset tracking devices, electronic logging devices (ELDs), tablet technologies or subscription-based services are not eligible. Only the costs related to telematics device hardware that meets the above-mentioned description, and functionality will be considered for funding. |

- Any device that is not listed in one of the tables above.
- Any device that does not meet the device description per the tables above.
Important notes
- It is at the discretion of the Program to determine eligibility of each device. If after reviewing the tables above you are still unsure about the eligibility of your device, please contact us before purchasing and installing the device.
- Proof of payment must be provided and must demonstrate that the device has been paid in full, including a device that is fully paid using the applicant's line of credit or credit card. A loan from a bank or a private lender will not be accepted as proof of payment until the credit product has been paid off.
- Add-ons or upgrades to retrofits are not eligible for funding under Stream 1. This includes any modifications, enhancements, or additional components installed for an added cost.
- Natural Resources Canada reserves the right to amend the Applicant Guide upon a three-month notice posted on this website to take into account changing market conditions, including but not limited to inflation. These changes will come into force in the fiscal year immediately following the notice, will remain in effect until repealed by the Program, and only apply to applications received after the changes have come into force.
