Step 1. Apply

To be eligible for the Canada Greener Homes Grant, you must complete the entire retrofit journey.

Conditions for residents of these provinces

New Brunswick, Rossland (BC), Nelson and Regional District of Central Kootenay (BC)

New Brunswick, Rossland (BC), Nelson and Regional District of Central Kootenay (BC) have requested that we direct residents from those areas to go through the respective provincial or municipal program first to ensure homeowners can take advantage of the network of energy advisors already established for those regions.

Apply and choose a service organization

1. Log in

Apply to the Canada Greener Homes Grant by logging in to the Canada Greener Homes portal, where you will have the following two options:

  1. Sign in with your Sign in Partner account, which uses the log-in information you use for your online banking (no financial information will be requested).
  2. Sign in using your GCKey. This is different from your CRA GCKey. Learn more about GCKey or call 1-855-438-1102 or TTY 1-855-438-1103 for technical difficulties.

Log in the same way each time to avoid technical issues with your application. Troubleshoot your technical issues with the Canada Greener Homes portal.

2. Start your application

You will need to provide:

  • name
  • telephone number
  • email address
  • type of house
  • address of your primary residence
  • proof of ownership (property tax bill number, found on municipal property documents)
  • proof of residence (government-issued ID with the matching address, such as a driver’s licence)

3. Select a service organization

You will need to select a service organization, which will work with you to book your pre-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation, which is the next step in your retrofit journey.

Before you apply

  • Check your eligibility: find out if the initiative is right for you.
  • Get a valid piece of government-issued ID with your
    primary address on it (like a driver’s license).
  • Have your tax roll number handy (you can find it on a
    property tax bill).
  • Look into available service organizations in your area.

To apply, you’ll need to create a GCkey or use a banking sign-in partner on the next page.

If you choose GCKey, make sure to keep your username and password somewhere safe because usernames can’t be recovered later.

Canada Greener Homes Initiative

  • Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program: grants up-to-$10,000 (regardless of province), or up-to-$15,000 in participating provinces, plus a $250 bonus (in participating provinces only), to switch from oil heating to an eligible heat pump.
  • Canada Greener Homes Grant (for existing applicants): grants-up- to-$5,000 to get part of your costs back for eligible home retrofits, plus up to $600 additional grant toward the total costs of your pre and post retrofit EnerGuide home evaluations.
  • Canada Greener Homes Loan: up to $40,000, interest-free with a repayment term of 10 years.
