Home labelling funding and projects

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) is co-funding projects that will advance widespread home labelling in Canada and contribute to the National Approach to Home Labelling (NAHL). See the Home Labelling Fund.

NRCan has approved funding through the Toward Net-Zero Homes and Communities program for the projects announced through the Canada Green Buildings Strategy and listed below.

Toward Net-Zero Homes and Communities Program

Home Energy Labelling and Disclosure Project | Government of Prince Edward Island

The objective of this project is to develop and launch an online web portal for a province-wide residential home energy labelling program, displaying energy labels on 100% of homes in the province of Price Edward Island.

Digital Home Energy Label Program Enhancement Project | City of Calgary

The objective of this project is to enhance the City of Calgary's Home Energy Label Program by updating and refining the digital energy score methodology, and developing a comprehensive strategy for homeowners and builders to disclose energy scores and EnerGuide labels, while fostering regional collaboration and knowledge sharing for a wider national impact.

Better Homes Ottawa Retrofit Portal Project| City of Ottawa

The objective of this Project is to facilitate home energy labelling and disclosure to encourage deep energy retrofits, to perform an outreach campaign and to provide energy coaching services through the development of an online Retrofit Portal for the City of Ottawa.

Residential Carbon Awareness and Engagement Project | City of Toronto

The objective of this project is to develop a carbon awareness and engagement tool for the City of Toronto that will inform residents about the carbon emissions and energy use of their homes, and connect households with supports and resources for carbon emission reduction upgrades.

Alternative Energy Labels for Indigenous Communities Project | Barkley Project Group

The objective of this project is to assess and test alternative methods for home labelling that may be more effective at empowering Indigenous communities in British Columbia to pursue deep energy efficiency retrofits.

Rating and Optimization Prediction Project | Efficiency Properties Inc.

The objective of this Project is to create a seamless home energy rating prediction system, while working with the real estate industry in Nova Scotia for its implementation into the home buying and home selling process.

Scaling Virtual Audit Technology Project | Windfall Ecology Centre

The objective of this Project is to build upon the Durham Greener Homes Retrofit Engagement Platform, facilitate virtual home energy labelling and disclosure to encourage emission reducing retrofits, reduce the need for on-site visits, provide coaching services to homeowners looking to retrofit, and to extend the virtual labelling service to remote Indigenous communities through an Indigenous led pilot.
