The Oil to Heat Pump Affordability (OHPA) program helps eligible low-to-median income households to switch from oil heating to electric heat pump systems.
This includes the purchase and installation of eligible heat pumps and additional eligible costs related to the installation (if needed), such as the safe removal of your oil tank.
Making the switch can help households save thousands of dollars on heating bills every year and helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
What is available through the program
Increased funding of up to $15,000
Receive an additional up to $5,000 from participating provinces and territories
For eligible homeowners living in one of the participating provinces or territories, an additional up to $5,000 is available, where the province or territory has committed to match the increased funding.
No-cost energy-saving home upgrades in Ontario
Eligible Ontario homeowners can apply for free direct installation of an energy-efficient heat pump system valued at up to $25,000 (up to $15,000 in federal funding and up to $10,000 in provincial funding) through Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and its co-delivery partner, the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO).
No funds will be paid directly to applicants, except for a $250 bonus cheque.

A heat pump bonus payment to reward homeowners’ commitment
A one-time payment of $250 is being offered to eligible homeowners living in one of the participating provinces/territories that is co-delivering OHPA. This bonus payment aims to further help participants in the OHPA program with the costs associated to switch from oil heating to an eligible electric heat pump.
To be eligible, you must sign up for the OHPA program through your province or territory and get pre-approved for an eligible heat pump system.
Once eligibility has been verified, a $250 cheque will be mailed to the applicant.

Be wary of high-pressure sales tactics that claim to have ENERGY STAR® or Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) backing
NRCan has not approved any third parties to make unsolicited contact with homeowners to register or participate in the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program. The Government of Canada, NRCan and its family of brands (ENERGY STAR, EnerGuide) never solicit over the telephone, or by email or go door-to-door asking to enter Canadians’ homes to inspect, sell, or rent heating and cooling products. Third parties may not apply on behalf of homeowners
Homeowners must apply to the OHPA program themselves. Third parties (including service organizations, energy advisors, and contractors) may not apply for the homeowner, or offer to apply, under any circumstances.
