Energy Efficiency Regulations
Description
The next amendments would update energy efficiency and/or testing standards for the following products. Please consult linked technical bulletins below for more information. Webinars were held between June 22-30, 2022 and the presentations can be requested from equipment-equipement@nrcan-rncan.gc.ca.
- Refrigerators
- Combination refrigerator-freezers
- Freezers
- Clothes washers
- Integrated clothes washer-dryers (Separate links on “washer” and “dryers” for this product)
- Clothes dryers
- Dishwashers
- Portable air conditioners
- Room air conditioners
- Gas-fired storage water heaters
- Electric water heaters
- Oil-fired water heaters
- Ice-makers (automatic commercial)
- Large air conditioners and large heat pumps
- General service lamps
- General service florescent lamps
- Metal halide lamp ballasts
- Central Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps (3-phase)
The next amendments would also introduce the following new products:
Forward Regulatory Plan
Natural Resources Canada first indicated its intention to move forward with these products through its Forward Regulatory Plan in April 2022, which has since been updated by the Forward Regulatory Plan 2023-2025 to reflect the current considerations. Further, an updated Notice of intent to align Canada’s Energy Efficiency Regulations, 2016, for energy efficiency and testing standards of refrigerators and refrigerator-freezers, freezers, dishwashers, clothes washers and clothes dryers with those of the United States Department of Energy was published in the Canada Gazette, Part I on August 19, 2023.
