Regional Energy and Resource Tables

What are the Regional Tables?

The Regional Energy and Resource Tables (Regional Tables) are partnerships between the federal government, and individual provinces and territories, with collaboration from Indigenous partners. They also rely on insights from key stakeholders. The Regional Tables identify and advance many of Canada’s most promising low-carbon opportunities in the energy and resource sectors.

To date, Regional Tables are underway in 10 provinces and territories: British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, and Yukon.

In addition, alternative approaches focusing on federal-provincial collaboration have been established with Alberta and Quebec.

Ongoing collaborative process

Launching a Regional Table begins a collaborative process for identifying opportunities, shared priorities, and short- and medium-term actions that will drive regional growth. This inclusive approach emphasizes building partnerships, enhancing flexibility and advancing trust to ensure the effective alignment of resources and decision-making. By bringing together federal, provincial, and territorial governments, Indigenous partners, and stakeholders, the Regional Tables develop and advance actions to tackle a range of priorities.

A key priority within these efforts is the improvement of regulatory efficiencies. By streamlining approval processes and collaborating with provincial, and territorial governments, and Indigenous partners, the Regional Tables aim to attract investment, ensure timely project completion and boost economic competitiveness. These regulatory enhancements are central to fostering long-term economic growth and creating lasting, positive impacts on communities.
