Sustainable Jobs

Action Plans

The Government of Canada is focused on growing a thriving economy, supporting the creation of good jobs and building prosperous communities as our country moves toward a low-carbon emissions future. To deliver on these priorities, the Canadian Sustainable Jobs Act requires the Government of Canada to prepare an Action Plan every five years that outlines how it will support workers and communities through Canada’s transition to a net‑zero emissions economy.

Building a Prosperous Future for Workers and Communities: Canada’s 2026-2030 Sustainable Jobs Action Plan

Canada’s 2026–2030 Sustainable Jobs Action Plan is a key pillar of the government’s Build Canada agenda, outlining commitments over 2026 to 2030 which will contribute to Canada’s economy, support workers and communities, and position the country for long-term prosperity. This Action Plan is informed by the advice of the Sustainable Jobs Partnership Council, which delivered its first Annual Report in fall 2025, and submissions received from partners and stakeholders across the country.

2023-2025 Interim Sustainable Jobs Plan

The 2023–2025 Interim Sustainable Jobs Plan, released in February 2023, laid out the initial framework for the Government of Canada's approach to advancing the creation of sustainable jobs and driving clean growth.

Since the Interim Plan was released, the Government of Canada has made progress on the 10 action areas outlined in the Plan. This includes establishing the federal governance, engagement and accountability framework needed to support effective action and advancing key programs to support workers succeed in sustainable jobs. Access the Interim Plan progress report in Annex A of the Action Plan.

The progress report of the 2026-2030 Sustainable Jobs Action Plan will be released in 2028.

Consultation and engagement

Consultation and engagement with Canadians, partners, and key stakeholders is a critical element in the development of each Action Plan. This work is guided by the value of understanding diverse perspectives and contributions across government, industry, and labour to help inform sound and responsive policy development. There are several pathways through which consultation and engagement on sustainable jobs is carried out.

The Sustainable Jobs Partnership Council, which was also established by legislation, engages with Canadians across the country and provides independent advice to support the development of Action Plans. The first Annual Report of the Partnership Council, released in 2025, includes a description of its efforts to engage with Canadians.

In addition, the Sustainable Jobs Secretariat undertakes ongoing engagement with key partners and stakeholders to inform its work, including on the Action Plans.
