Major Energy and Natural Resources Projects Inventory

This inventory is unrelated to the Major Projects Office, which advances nation-building projects.

Natural Resources Canada’s Major Projects Inventory, released annually, provides a snapshot of major natural resource projects in Canada that are either currently under construction or are planned within the next 10 years.

Inventory

The inventory tracks major Canadian natural resource projects that expand, enhance, or improve production, including new extraction, infrastructure, processing facilities, and large expansions, along with their stage, value, and location. Projects must meet minimum capital thresholds: $50 million for energy and mining, $20 million for electricity and forestry, and $10 million for clean energy and clean technology.

Reports include information current at the time of publication. While effort is made to maintain a comprehensive project listing, projects are constantly being added and re-evaluated by industry in between the annual updates to the report. It is also possible that not all major projects are included in the inventory, as some projects may not be publicly announced and some project information may not be publicized by companies for reasons of confidentiality.
