Manage Your EDO Certification

New Electronic Payment System

The NDTCB has introduced an important update to its program for all users. An electronic payment system has been introduced to provide flexibility when applying for certification. Pre-authorized payment included with an application will still be processed. If payment is needed to process your application, you will receive a specific email from the NRCan NDTCB providing you with the appropriate payment link to our secure online payment system.

In order to maintain valid Exposure Device Operator (EDO) certification with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), you will be required to renew your certification with the CNSC. If applicable, you will also be required to renew your Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) National Non-Destructive Testing Certification Body (NDTCB) photo identification (ID) card. It is your responsibility to keep and eye on your certification and photo ID expiry dates and to renew them on time.

For complete information on the requirements for renewing your EDO certification with the CNSC, please contact the CNSC and read the  PCP-09 Certified Exposure Device Operator Personnel Certification Guide. You can download the guide from the CNSC website.

Examination in support of EDO certification renewal

To renew your EDO certification with the CNSC, you may be required to pass the EDO written examination (provided by the NRCan NDTCB). Before contacting the NRCan NDTCB, please contact the CNSC to obtain information regarding all requirements and pre-requisites (including whether you are required to complete the written EDO examination).

NRCan NDTCB photo ID renewal

If you are already a certified exposure device operator (CEDO), you should have a valid photo identification card that was issued by the NRCan NDTCB.

The CNSC does not consider your certification valid unless your CEDO ticket is accompanied by a photo ID card issued by the NRCan NDTCB bearing the same registration number.

Check your card’s expiry date and complete the renewal steps well in advance. The renewal fee is $120.

If you hold valid certification with the NRCan NDTCB as an X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) Analyzer Operator or in one or more Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods, you should have a valid NRCan NDTCB photo ID card for those certifications. In this case, you will not be required to renew your NRCan NDTCB photo ID card for EDO certification, as your NRCan NDTCB certification photo ID card will be sufficient proof of ID.
