Project Objectives
Teetl’it Gwich’in are implementing a community energy plan that includes six main components: home retrofits and renovations for energy efficiency; energy literacy training; heat recovery to expand the use of waste heat from other buildings; solar PV feasibility studies; and, a net-zero building and community sustainability initiative to enhance energy conservation and food security. These community-driven projects will serve as a foundation for reducing diesel consumption and promoting sustainable development in Fort McPherson.
Expected Results
Through building local skills and knowledge, Teetl’it Gwich’in will reduce the community’s use of fossil fuels and contribute to a healthier environment for future generations. These projects are anticipated to save 1014 MWh of energy per year, enough to reduce diesel fuel consumption by more than 250,000 L. By connecting community members, utilities, and educational institutions across these projects, Teetl’it Gwich’in are demonstrating their leadership in energy conservation and addressing the impacts of climate change.
