Project Objectives
This project seeks to accelerate electric vehicle (EV) adoption by demonstrating a cost-effective EV charger load management system that uses open standards (OCPP1.6J and OCPP 2.0), thereby enabling load management across a variety of EV charger vendors. The system minimizes the need for electrical infrastructure upgrades and is ideally suited for high-density parking sites such as in multi-unit residential buildings, workplaces, and public destination settings.
Expected Results
By increasing the access to EV charging stations in high-density, urban multi-tenant settings, SWTCH Energy’s EV charging load management solution can help improve widespread EV adoption and in turn, contribute to the decarbonisation of Canada’s transportation system.
By enabling the transition from carbon- to electric-based transportation, this EV charging solution can help alleviate a wide range of environmental and health risks. Electric-based transportation minimizes air pollutants that cause or exacerbate health conditions such as asthma, chronic bronchitis, cardiovascular disease, birth defects, and cancers.
SWTCH Energy’s solution also enables intelligent local EV charger management within multi-tenant buildings while managing charging and storage to reduce grid congestion and constraints, shifting electricity demand, and accurately tracking and pricing EV charging events.
