Project Objectives

This Project aims to support capacity building by involving the community in energy planning and engagement activities. The Energy Champion Team will host community engagement sessions for on and off-reserve members. Ḵwiḵwa̱sut’inux̱w Ha̱xwa’mis First Nation will also work closely with the Barkley Project Group to complete a community energy plan and a pre-feasibility study for a run-of-river hydro project to displace some of the community’s diesel use. This project will build upon the community’s success in developing a 220kW solar system with a 1.1MWh battery energy storage system that is already displacing diesel use.

Expected Results

The project’s expected results are to enhance the community’s capacity in energy planning, and to develop an updated community energy plan that plans for future growth of the community.
