Project Objectives

Luna Yu, CEO of Genecis Bioindustries, is aiming to tackle plastic pollution and prevent food waste from ending up in landfills by developing a polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) based biodegradable plastic, which is made out of organic waste. Genecis Bioindustries hopes that this will move the world towards a circle economy where mainstream brands adopt PHA plastics.

Expected Results

Genecis Bioindustries’ bioplastics are expected to be able to be fully composted within a month and degrade within a year if it ends up in the ocean. The properties of their bioplastics will be equivalent to traditional oil based plastics as they can be used to create packaging films, bags, containers, utensils, and other products.
