Project Objectives
This project will demonstrate the use of Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) in an airport setting.
An innovative fast charging hub will be used to support deployment of electric buses to transport passengers in a high pressure airport environment with unpredictable scheduling and demands.
Expected Results
This high visibility electrified bus demonstration project, at Canada’s busiest airport, will open the door to electrify airport buses and ground support equipment.
It is expected that this project will identify key barriers and strategies for using electric buses and high speed charging infrastructure in airport operations, as well as optimizing high speed charging to meet strict operating requirements. It will provide travelers with advanced technology, quiet and emissions free electric bus shuttle services in an airport setting.
It is hoped that the project will be replicated at other airports, and this innovative energy management solution will enable workplace charging and minimize infrastructure upgrade costs.
