Project Objectives
The project aims to demonstrate a modular, self-contained EV charging and load management technology, which relies mostly on solar charging and energy storage, and which has on/off grid capabilities. The objective is to reduce barriers to the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) by demonstrating EV infrastructure that offers an attractive value proposition for owners of apartment buildings, retail sites, and other commercial properties, while minimizing the need for expensive grid infrastructure upgrades.
The demonstration will comprise of a total of 36 electric vehicle chargers, including 35 Level 2 and one Level 3, across a total of 9 retail, office, residential, and commercial sites using on-site solar power and energy storage for buffering and load management.

Expected Results
This technology can be connected to buildings as part of a microgrid to provide peak shaving and power backup capabilities, and to allow the use of electricity when an EV is not charging.
The system will provide value to tenants by providing an EV charging station, and value to owners and operators through time-of-use building load management using the energy storage, providing solar energy during the day, and revenue from charging events.
