Project Objectives

The objective of this project is to demonstrate the commercial feasibility of NOVONIX’s process to synthesize lithium-ion battery cathode active materials (CAM) by optimizing production and performance in its existing pilot facility.

Expected Results

This project aims to:

  1. Position Canadian lithium-ion battery cathode manufacturing to outcompete other jurisdictions through a patented, low-cost, and sustainable process.
  2. Engage with Canadian universities, and train highly qualified personnel in materials science, chemical and materials engineering, advanced manufacturing, and supply chain management.
  3. Address a midstream gap in Canada’s battery value chain by adding value to local critical minerals resources and supplying battery cell manufacturers and automotive original equipment manufacturers with a key production input.
  4. Use a sulphate-free process that reduces waste disposal regulatory burdens, enabling CAM manufacturing scale-up in Canada and similar jurisdictions.
