Project Objectives

The objective of this project is to leverage AI-enhanced load forecast analytics at a granular, distribution transformer and feeder level, to strategically dispatch demand response signals for managing a variety of customer-owned DERs as a non-wires solution.

Expected Results

This project aims to:

  1. Accelerate grid modernization to optimize assets, improve reliability, resiliency, flexibility, and increase DER penetration.
  2. Set a technical and financial precedent for utilities to expand beyond poles and wires.
  3. Demonstrate the role of active electricity distribution systems in a modern electric power grid.
  4. Lay the groundwork for a more reliable and resilient electricity system.
  5. Explore cost-effective alternatives to meeting grid needs.
  6. Share knowledge and insights to enhance public awareness.
  7. Assess the techno-economic potential of non-wires solutions to reduce electricity rates.
  8. Provide data and experience on customer behaviour as electric demand grows in Canada.
