Project Objectives

The objective of this project is to better understand the potential for interactions between fish and tidal energy devices deployed in the Minas Passage.

Expected Results

This project will commission the world’s first autonomous, floating tidal energy environmental monitoring platform, as well as a fully instrumented submersible monitoring platform. In combination, data collected from both platforms will improve the understanding of environmental conditions in the Minas Passage, and the sensor technologies and approaches required to inform risk assessment as part of the federal regulatory authorization process. The project will also strengthen Canada’s workforce through technical and scientific skill development and creating opportunities for marine industry suppliers.
