Project Objectives

The objective of this project is to develop ultra high-power capacity cylindrical format lithium-ion (Li-ion) cells for defense and power tool applications through advancements in cell design and materials.

Expected Results

This project aims to:

  1. Strengthen Canada’s supply chain by increasing domestic battery manufacturing and reducing reliance on foreign suppliers, which is especially important for the defence sector.
  2. Drive job creation by requiring highly qualified personnel and generating downstream employment for Canadians.
  3. Localize the midstream of the battery supply chain in Canada, targeting commercial readiness and 2 GWh of battery cell production by project end.
  4. Produce Canadian-held patents.
