Project Objectives
The objective of this project is to demonstrate the first solar and battery project in Nunavut capable of operating both connected to the local microgrid and in islanded mode.
Expected Results
This project aims to:
- Replace diesel power generation with local sustainable energy resources in a northern and remote community.
- Deliver economic, social, and environmental benefits to strengthen community resilience.
- Reduce electricity costs, community diesel use and emissions and provide emergency power to three buildings in case of a utility power outage.
- Create local training and employment opportunities for solar panel installation, operation, and maintenance.
