Project Objectives

The objective of this project is to upgrade control systems and integrate the Sayisi Dene First Nation-owned solar PV and battery energy storage system into the Tadoule Lake diesel generating station, enabling grid-following capability and Manitoba’s first grid-forming renewable energy microgrid operations.

Expected Results

This project aims to:

  1. Replace diesel fuel with local sustainable energy resources for power generation in a northern and remote community.
  2. Generate economic, social, and environmental benefits leading to more resilient Canadian communities.
  3. Increase community revenue from energy production and sales and create local jobs (construction and long-term) while reducing noise, greenhouse gas emissions, and diesel spill risks.
