Project Objectives

The objective of the project is to develop a first of its kind electricity system in Manitoba that will integrate renewable energy sources to enable grid-forming and grid-following operations in Sayisi Dene First Nation, a remote, northern community using diesel for primary energy.

Expected Results

This project aims to:

  1. Replace diesel with local sustainable energy in a northern and remote community, fostering economic, social, and environmental benefits leading to more resilient Canadian communities.
  2. Enhance energy literacy, local revenue, and employment while reducing noise, greenhouse gas emissions, and diesel spill risks.
