Project Objectives

The objective of this project is to conduct feasibility and front-end engineering and design (FEED) studies of renewable energy systems for three communities in Nunavut.

Expected Results

This project aims to:

  1. Demonstrate the feasibility of high-penetration renewables in Northern communities and identify economic opportunities for Independent Power Production in off-grid and remote areas of Canada.
  2. Inform Canada’s technology sector on the feasibility of high-penetration renewable generation systems in various Northern community locations.
  3. Deliver socio-economic benefits to community members, including increased expertise in renewable energy and storage systems, along with employment opportunities through project activities.
  4. Provide utilities and regulators with insights on the techno-economic feasibility of wind, solar, and storage systems to reduce diesel use.
  5. Prepare communities for Canada’s evolving energy landscape, enabling three Nunavut communities to be ready to construct and commission renewable systems and generate their own clean power.
