Project Objectives
The objective of this project is to conduct feasibility and front-end engineering and design (FEED) studies of renewable energy systems for three communities in Nunavut.
Expected Results
This project aims to:
- Demonstrate the feasibility of high-penetration renewables in Northern communities and identify economic opportunities for Independent Power Production in off-grid and remote areas of Canada.
- Inform Canada’s technology sector on the feasibility of high-penetration renewable generation systems in various Northern community locations.
- Deliver socio-economic benefits to community members, including increased expertise in renewable energy and storage systems, along with employment opportunities through project activities.
- Provide utilities and regulators with insights on the techno-economic feasibility of wind, solar, and storage systems to reduce diesel use.
- Prepare communities for Canada’s evolving energy landscape, enabling three Nunavut communities to be ready to construct and commission renewable systems and generate their own clean power.
