Project Objectives

The objective of this project is to demonstrate an agrivoltaics system capable of meeting growing energy and food demands in cold climates. By de-risking the technology, the project seeks to accelerate innovation and provide evidence to inform regulations that currently limit solar development on prime agricultural land, showing that solar energy and agriculture can sustainably coexist.

Expected Results

This project aims to:

  1. Demonstrate how agrivoltaics can expand renewable energy generation while sustaining agricultural productivity, advancing Canada’s clean energy and food security goals.
  2. Provide insights on emissions reduction, grid resilience, and agricultural efficiency.
  3. Validate performance data and support wider adoption by sharing it on the proponent’s open-source platform, ensuring accessibility, establishing best practices for large-scale agrivoltaics deployments, and informing land-use and renewable energy policy.
