Project Objectives
The objective of this project is to demonstrate large-scale agrivoltaic integration within Ontario’s crop sector, showing that solar energy and agriculture can coexist without reducing productivity.
Expected Results
This project aims to:
- Demonstrate that renewable energy generation can expand without reducing agricultural activity, addressing land-use trade-off concerns.
- Add clean power to the grid, improve energy security, maintain crop production, and generate additional income for rural communities through solar integration with farming.
- Provide real-world performance data on agrivoltaic systems, currently scarce in Canada.
- Enable policymakers to refine land-use and renewable energy regulations, build utility confidence in agrivoltaics as a scalable clean power option, and provide farmers with a practical model to diversify revenue without displacing agriculture.
