Project Objectives

The objective of this project is to assess the feasibility of an offshore carbon capture and storage (CCS) hub in Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) by evaluating geological storage potential, injection options, marine transport, and infrastructure needs.

Expected Results

This project aims to:

  1. Contribute to net-zero goals by enabling future offshore CCS development that reduce industrial emissions.
  2. Enable industrial emissions reduction through shared CCS infrastructure.
  3. Strengthen national CCS expertise, foster innovation, and develop skilled jobs in engineering, geology, and climate technologies.
  4. Advance decarbonization planning, climate resilience, and economic opportunities in clean energy sectors.
  5. Support research, train highly skilled personnel, and provide data to guide provincial agencies energy transition strategies.
  6. Strengthen multi-sector collaboration and prepare Newfoundland and Labrador’s offshore industry for future low carbon opportunities
