Project Objectives

The objective of this project is to demonstrate a novel seismic design (24D) for carbon capture and storage measurement monitoring and validation (CCS MMV), integrating 2D and 3D seismic geometrics to minimize the need for multiple 3D repeat surveys.

Expected Results

This project aims to:

  1. Enable rapid adoption of a more cost-effective, lower-impact MMV plan.
  2. Support provincial regulators in evaluating MMV plans for future CCS projects.
  3. Make project concepts and designs publicly available, enabling large projects to benefit from lessons learned, including methodologies, challenges, and solutions applied for MMV and CCS operations.
  4. Apply wavefield reconstruction and 3D ray tracing simulations to optimize MMV designs, which can enhance other seismic strategies, increasing project success rates and reducing environmental impact.
