Project Objectives

The objective of this project is to deploy a fully electric Caterpillar 950GC loader at the Nouveau Monde Graphite open-pit mine in Quebec, to demonstrate in real operating conditions the performance, reliability, and environmental benefits of replacing diesel-powered equipment with zero-emission solutions in active mining operations.

Expected Results

This project aims to:

  1. Reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve local air quality by replacing diesel equipment.
  2. Support Canada’s decarbonization goals and strengthen leadership in clean mining technologies.
  3. Generate knowledge to accelerate the transition to low-emission mining operations.
  4. Demonstrate a replicable model for deploying electric equipment that can be adopted by other mining companies in Canada and internationally.
  5. Provide the mining sector with high-value operational data from real-world conditions, including performance in extreme climates.
  6. Generate economic benefits for local and Indigenous suppliers involved in infrastructure, training, and services.
