Project Objectives

The objective of this project is to replace IAMGOLD’s Westwood Mine surface haulage fleet with battery electric vehicles (BEVs) by developing a scalable BEV solution, upgrading charging infrastructure, and providing workforce training.

Expected Results

This project aims to:

1. Share BEV performance results through key industry channels including the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum, the Ontario Mining Association, and the Quebec Mining Association.
2. Collaborate with the Clean Growth Hub and NRCan to align reporting with federal decarbonization objectives and ensure public dissemination of findings.
3. Address a lack of commercial BEV solutions for heavy duty surface mining vehicles.
4. Provide data on cold-temperature impacts on battery performance, charging efficiency, and energy consumption.
5. Deliver extensive training for operators and maintenance teams on safe operation, maintenance, and energy management.
