Project Objectives

The objective of this project is to deploy and validate the performance of two river hydrokinetic systems in the St. Lawrence River.

Expected Results

This project aims to:

  1. Raise public awareness of river hydrokinetic and ocean energy opportunities in Canada.
  2. Strengthen the workforce by creating local jobs and supporting Indigenous youth training.
  3. Diversify Canada’s energy systems, reduce emissions, and expand access to clean electricity in northern and remote communities.
  4. Validate regulatory pathways and system performance to enable broader adoption across Canada.
  5. Increase stakeholder and regulatory capacity through insights from permitting and approval processes.
  6. Collect new datasets to improve understanding of resource potential, including digital twinning of the Parc Jean Drapeau aquatic complex to inform its decarbonization strategy.
