Project Objectives
The objective of this project is to demonstrate battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) at multiple underground mine sites across Canada. The project will assess vehicle performance in real-world conditions, identify barriers to broader adoption, and establish best practices for deployment across the mining sector
Expected Results
This project aims to:
- Reduce GHG emissions and improve underground air quality by decreasing diesel use, exhaust, and heat generation, thereby reducing ventilation demands
- Generate technical performance data to inform future electrification standards and best practices in the mining sector.
- Demonstrate the business case for BEV deployment in brownfield mines, including productivity, cost, charging, and asset-utilization considerations
- Guide future investment decisions and operational planning for mine electrification by validating BEV management strategies under real operating conditions.
- Strengthen collaboration among OEMs, mining companies, and technology providers to foster innovation and shared value creation.
