Impact Statement

This Call aims to fund high-impact projects that catalyze national expertise to develop and use novel Canadian-made AI solutions to accelerate domestic energy innovation.

Why is Canada investing in AI solutions?

Emerging segments of Canada’s economy have been, and are continuing to, adopt AI in interesting and productive ways that lead to competitiveness gains and broader innovations on the global stage. Early adopters demonstrate how practical AI solutions can accelerate innovation, experimentation, and discovery in their respective fields. Opportunities in the energy space have not yet been fully realized; only 2.3% of energy start-ups have an AI-related value proposition, lower than the 7% for life sciences and 4.3% for agriculture (IEA 2025).

Canada is home to both world-leading energy and clean technology innovators and AI expertise spanning multiple sectors (academia, not-for-profit, industry, etc.). This confluence of expertise creates a unique opportunity for Canadian innovators to come together and develop high-impact solutions at the nexus of AI and energy innovation.
