Green Freight Program Applicant’s Guide: Stream 1 - Assess and Retrofit

Due to exceptionally strong demand and the full allocation of available funding, the intake portal for Stream 1 will close at 5:00 pm ET on January 16, 2026.

Continuous intake process

Stream 1 of the GFP is accepting applications through a continuous intake process starting December 12, 2022, and running until 5 pm ET on January 16, 2026. Only applications that meet the Program’s requirements as outlined in the Applicant Guide will receive funding on a first come, first served basis.

Important notes

  • Natural Resources Canada reserves the right to amend the Applicant Guide upon three-months’ notice posted on this website to take into account changing market conditions, including but not limited to inflation. These changes will come into force and remain in effect until repealed by the Program and only apply to the applications received after the changes come into force.
  • There are important notes on most pages of this guide. Applicants are encouraged to review them before submitting an application package to ensure that all aspects of the Applicant Guide have been considered and addressed.
