Our review and decision
NRCan and the CRA each have different responsibilities in the CCUS ITC evaluation process.
-
NRCan is responsible for:
- Receiving project plans
- Issuing initial project evaluations
- Issuing revised project evaluations
-
The CRA is responsible for:
- Determining (in consultation with NRCan) whether a CCUS project constitutes one project or multiple projects
Steps of evaluation process
-
Determination of one or multiple projects (CRA in consultation with NRCan)
- Review and determination of whether a CCUS project is a single project or multiple projects
- A determination that one or more CCUS projects is one project or multiple projects can occur:
-
At any time before an initial project evaluation has been issued
-
If the Minister of Natural Resources has requested a revised project plan, after the revised project plan has been submitted but before a revised project evaluation has been issued
- The CRA will inform you of the project determination decision
- For each project determined, a project plan must be submitted no later than 180 days after the determination is made
-
Evaluation of project plan submission (NRCan)
- Review of:
- CCUS process
- CCUS property
- Review of detailed technical documentation included in submission to evaluate whether property is expected to be CCUS property, consistent with the technical guidance
- Clarification or additional information and documentation may be requested if the submitted documentation is not sufficient to complete an evaluation
-
Issuance of project evaluation (NRCan)
- Initial and revised project evaluations are uploaded in the secure portal
- You can review your project evaluation within the secure portal
- In order to claim the CCUS ITC, you must be issued an initial project evaluation for each qualified CCUS project
