Implementing agreement on renewable energy technology deployment (IEA-RETD)

To encourage collaborative efforts to meet the energy challenges, the International Energy Agency's Implementing Agreements allow interested member and non-member governments or other organizations to pool resources and foster the research, development and deployment of particular technologies.

The Implementing Agreement on Renewable Energy Technology Deployment (IEA-RETD) was officially launched on September 15, 2005. The IEA-RETD is a cross-cutting and policy-focused implementing agreement aimed at addressing the challenges and opportunities facing further deployment of renewable energy technologies. The IEA-RETD's objective is to promote the benefits of renewable energy, within energy and climate change policy, in order to enable an increased rate of renewable energy technology deployment.

Canada is member of the executive committee of the RETD, together with Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Netherland, Norway and United Kingdom. Canada's representation at the IEA-RETD is led by NRCan's Renewable and Electrical Energy Division (REED).

As part of its annual Programme of Work, the IEA-RETD undertakes projects and participates in international events aimed at accelerating the deployment of renewable energy technologies. The IEA-RETD website http://iea-retd.org/ provides detailed information on completed, ongoing and future projects and renewable energy project contract opportunities.
