NRCan’s GGO team plays a key role in supporting efforts led by the Treasury Board Secretariat Centre for Greening Government to help the Government of Canada to transition to low-carbon, climate-resilient and green operations. NRCan delivers technical support, guidance and training to federal organizations in support of their greening commitments under the Greening Government Strategy directive and, ultimately, to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 throughout federal operations.
Our areas of focus
Develop and implement approaches to improve the energy performance of federal real property assets and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Apply an integrated planning, implementation, verification, and continuous improvement methodology to support the Government of Canada’s objective of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Provide procurement tools to support the acquisition of professional services related to energy efficiency.
Existing Building Commissioning (EBCx)
Contribute to increasing the adoption of Existing Building Commissioning (EBCx) in Canada through awareness-raising, development of tools and resources, and case studies. Visit the dedicated EBCx page to learn more about NRCan’s efforts in this area.
Provide analysis, tools, and strategic support related to the management of federal vehicle fleets. Support planning for the deployment of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs), the implementation of charging infrastructure, and the adoption of best practices for fleet decarbonization.
Qualified Bidders List of Energy Service Companies
Administer the list of qualified Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) eligible to submit bids under federal Energy Performance Contracts (EPCs). Facilitate access to qualified partners for the implementation of energy retrofit projects within federal buildings.
Design and deliver training to build capacity in energy and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions management across federal facilities and vehicle fleets. Provide online training modules and specialized workshops accessible to all federal departments and agencies.
Document and disseminate the results of exemplary projects delivered through Energy Performance Contracts (EPCs), Existing Building Commissioning (EBCx), and federal building retrofit initiatives. Highlight lessons learned and best practices to support the continuous improvement of energy management.
Support a federal community of practice bringing together specialists and managers working to reduce emissions and improve operational efficiency. Foster the sharing of experiences, the dissemination of best practices, and the strengthening of technical knowledge.
