Natural Resources Canada congratulates 19 organizations and 11 buildings for winning the 2024 ENERGY STAR Canada Awards for advancing energy efficiency. The awards recognize organizations that have demonstrated excellence in offering Canadians the most energy-efficient products and technology available on the market.

Sustained Excellence – 2024
Promotional Campaign of the Year – 2024
takeCHARGE (a partnership between Newfoundland Power and Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro)
Through a collaborative initiative, takeCHARGE combines the expertise and customer reach of Newfoundland and Labrador’s two electricity utilities: Newfoundland Power and Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro. These utility partners work together to bring energy efficiency awareness and rebate programs to people across the province. takeCHARGE provides a one-stop-shop for everything residents and businesses need to know about energy efficiency, all while making it more affordable.
Key 2023 accomplishments include:
- Offered at-the-cash rebates on a variety of ENERGY STAR certified products at 45 participating retailers.
- Provided incentives to residential customers on approximately 82,037 ENERGY STAR certified products. These products provided customers with over 4,291 MWh of savings annually. That’s enough energy to power over 1,400 electric vehicles (EVs) for one year!
- Donated approximately 24,000 ENERGY STAR certified LED bulbs to 60 partners, including non-profit organizations, and charities across the province through the Make the Switch LED giveaway.
- Provided outreach and education on energy-efficient products through the Isolated Direct Install Program to home and business owners in remote diesel-system communities across the province. 1,169 ENERGY STAR certified light bulbs were installed in homes and businesses in three communities.
- Provided 18 school presentations at 6 different schools across the province to educate 438 students in Grades K-6 about energy efficiency and ENERGY STAR certified products.
- Through the Energy Savers Kit program, takeCHARGE distributed 2,547 Energy Savers kits to income-qualified customers across the province. This represents 7,641 ENERGY STAR certified LED lightbulbs and over 2,104 MWh of annual savings.

Manufacturer of the Year – Fenestration Products – 2024
JELD-WEN of Canada
Manufacturing in Canada for more than 28 years, JELD-WEN continues to offer homeowners a full line of window and door products across the country at every price point. JELD-WEN of Canada, a subsidiary of JELD-WEN Holding, Inc., manufactures three regionally specific window and door collections out of their manufacturing facilities located in Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec.
The company also operates an exterior/interior door manufacturing facility in Quebec and an interior door manufacturing centre in Manitoba. Rounding out their commitment to the Canadian marketplace, JELD-WEN of Canada operates an interior door and trim distribution centre, in New Brunswick, serving all Atlantic Canada.
Key 2023 accomplishments include:
- Continued to expand national reach by not only consistently sharing ENERGY STAR information across all mediums and tactics in both English and French, but also through accessible documents, ensuring there are no barriers for all Canadians to access information.
- Offered ENERGY STAR certified products which went from 32,942 in early 2023 to 59,181 at the end of 2023.
- Maintained shipment of over 63,000 ENERGY STAR certified products for homes across Canada.
- Leveraged 87% of their year’s traditional and digital media focus on ENERGY STAR certified products and programs.

Samsung is one of the world’s leading electronics companies with a reputation for innovation in consumer products, including digital appliances, televisions, monitors, smartphones, tablets, and wearable devices. An ENERGY STAR Canada participant since 2003, Samsung is dedicated to making meaningful contributions to fight climate change by developing more energy-efficient products. Through their partnership with ENERGY STAR, Samsung is committed to core technologies and innovations that have a profound and positive impact on the spaces in which we live, and the environment.
Key 2023 accomplishments include:
- Introduced 23 new ENERGY STAR certified product models.
- 100% of Samsung Bespoke models remained ENERGY STAR certified, including newly introduced models.
- Amplified ENERGY STAR initiatives via social media channels, including participation in the ‘12 Days of ENERGY STAR’ campaign, ENERGY STAR Day, ENERGY STAR Awards, and an ENERGY STAR promotional offer on Earth Day.
- Executed digital media campaigns emphasizing sustainability and highlighting ENERGY STAR certified appliances, gaining an impressive 151 million impressions.

Resideo Technologies Inc. was established in 2018 and specializes in providing innovative solutions for room temperature, air quality, humidity control, and security systems primarily tailored for residential settings across Canada, the United States and internationally. Their operations are structured into two key segments: products and distribution.
In the products segment, Resideo designs, manufactures, and distributes a wide array of smart-home devices and software solutions. This includes cutting-edge products for temperature and lighting control, security systems, and water and air monitoring technologies.
With a global workforce exceeding 13,000 employees, Resideo's products have made their way into over 150 million households worldwide.
Key 2023 accomplishments include:
- Executed a brand ambassador cause marketing video campaign promoting Honeywell Home ENERGY STAR certified thermostats. This campaign ranked as the second top-performing organic content on Resideo's LinkedIn page as of April 2023.
- Reached nearly 1.5 million professional installers and consumers via email and Resideo ProPERKS newsletter during Resideo's Earth Day campaign promoting ENERGY STAR and Habitat for Humanity International.
- Achieved 135,000 completed video views and 670,000 impressions through YouTube paid ad campaigns in promotion of ENERGY STAR certified smart thermostats and Habitat for Humanity International partnership.

Manufacturer of the Year – Electronics – 2024
Ricoh Canada Inc.
Ricoh Canada Inc. is a global technology company and provider of digital services, print and imaging solutions to support digital transformation of workplaces, workspaces, and optimize business performance.
Ricoh’s Founding Principles drive their efforts in sustainability, ensuring that protecting the environment is at the forefront of all their decisions and activities, and align with ENERGY STAR’s mission to create a partnership dedicated to achieving positive environmental change.
Key 2023 accomplishments include:
- Welcomed 400 attendees at the Ricoh Partner Summit and promoted the ENERGY STAR brand in various ways: displaying the ENERGY STAR marks, highlighting sustainability and emphasizing Ricoh’s participation in the ENERGY STAR program. Attendees received a “Green Office Checklist” underscoring certified products to facilitate eco-friendly changes in the workplace.
- Launched a new multifunction printer series, with models obtaining ENERGY STAR certification. The new series’ product lifecycle – from raw material sourcing, transportation, maintenance, to recycling – has a smaller carbon footprint than their predecessor series.
- Expanded their GreenLine re-manufactured product series, increasing the number of ENERGY STAR certified models in their product portfolio by 267% from 2022.
- Amplified ENERGY STAR initiatives, including ENERGY STAR Day, and created various toolkits for partners to highlight these initiatives and the ENERGY STAR program.

Manufacturer of the Year – Commercial Products – 2024
Due North (Minus Forty QBD Corp.)
Due North, through the Minus Forty brand, is a leading manufacturer of commercial refrigeration products. The company is committed to creating energy efficient equipment that meets ENERGY STAR specifications, and that ultimately help end users reduce their energy bills, save money, and protect the planet.
Key 2023 accomplishments include:
- Researched and developed a more energy efficient version of existing product line of ENERGY STAR certified models.
- Designed and developed four new cooler models to meet current ENERGY STAR specifications.
- Conducted life cycle assessments of the top-selling product models to assess environmental impacts, identify areas of improvement and enhance product sustainability.
- Highlighted their ENERGY STAR certified products through social media and marketing campaigns; emphasized benefits of ENERGY STAR certified products, including reducing energy consumption, saving money, and environmental impact.

National Retailer of the Year – 2024
The Home Depot Canada
An ENERGY STAR Canada Participant since 2001, The Home Depot Canada is one of the country’s biggest home improvement retailers, with 182 stores across the country. The Home Depot caters to "do-it-yourselfers”, as well as home improvement, construction and building maintenance professionals. Through its commitment to sustainability, the company acknowledges that their biggest environmental impact comes from the products they sell. As such, the company recognizes ENERGY STAR as a trusted brand whose familiar symbol lends credibility to the store’s energy-efficient products. Throughout The Home Depot Canada stores and online, consumers can find a wide array of ENERGY STAR certified products including appliances, commercial products, electronics, windows and doors, HVAC equipment, and lighting.
Key 2023 accomplishments include:
- The Home Services team attended the Toronto Fall Home Show to promote the Canada Greener Homes Grant program, which required the installation of ENERGY STAR certified products in many categories for customers to qualify for the grant.
- Coordinated with Enbridge Gas to promote an event related to the Home Efficiency Rebate Plus program, which featured many ENERGY STAR certified products.
- Partnered with BC Hydro, FortisBC, SaskPower, Efficiency Manitoba, Enbridge Gas, efficiencyPEI, Efficiency Nova Scotia, and takeCHARGE Newfoundland to offer instant rebates to customers on ENERGY STAR certified products. These partnerships resulted in offering customers over $4 million in savings on energy efficient products.
- Drove $346 million in sales of ENERGY STAR products online and in stores, helping Canadians save energy and make better choices when considering energy efficient upgrades to their homes.

Corbeil Appliances
Corbeil has been a pioneer in the appliance industry since 1949, recognized for its unwavering commitment to excellence and its ongoing pursuit of innovation. After transitioning to Canadian ownership in 2017 and now operating 24 stores in Quebec and Ontario, Corbeil stands out as the largest regional retailer specializing exclusively in appliances, offering its customers an impressive selection of over 100 high-quality brands. Corbeil's head office is located in Laval, Quebec.
Key 2023 accomplishments include:
- Created and promoted a digital media campaign featuring their ENERGY STAR Canada 2023 award win, generating over 36 million impressions.
- Created blog posts focused on sustainability and responsible practices to help consumers save energy and money, while highlighting ENERGY STAR certified products.
- Created a dedicated webpage for the ENERGY STAR program, explaining the ENERGY STAR certification and highlighting the impact of ENERGY STAR certified products.
- Strengthened their environmental commitment by increasing the number of ENERGY STAR certified products in their product portfolio, promoting appliance recycling programs for consumers, and greening their organization.

Utility/Program Administrator of the Year – 2024
Efficiency Manitoba
Efficiency Manitoba is Manitoba’s Crown corporation committed to reaching long-term energy savings targets by offering cost-effective programs and services to Manitobans. Their legislated mandate is to develop and support energy efficiency initiatives that will reduce provincial consumption of electricity by 1.5% and natural gas by 0.75% annually. In the process of reducing provincial consumption of natural gas, they enable significant greenhouse gas emission reductions.
By accessing Efficiency Manitoba’s programs and services, Manitobans have an opportunity to manage their energy consumption and make a meaningful difference — on their energy bills and more broadly, for the environment. Efficiency Manitoba is excited to continue driving positive change and fostering an increased sense of responsibility toward a more sustainable and energy-conscious Manitoba.
Key 2023 accomplishments include:
- Offered six programs for residential and commercial customers to upgrade to ENERGY STAR certified products.
- Provided nearly 81,000 rebates on ENERGY STAR certified LED specialty bulbs, fixtures, and smart thermostats through their most recent Instant Rebates campaign.
- Achieved a milestone of one million products rebated through their Instant Rebates campaigns, 87% of which were ENERGY STAR certified products.
- Promoted the installation of almost 3,000 ENERGY STAR certified window and doors.

Energy Efficiency Program Administrator of the Year – 2024
Independent Electricity System Operator – Save on Energy
The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) works at the heart of Ontario's power system. The IESO delivers key services across the electricity sector, including managing the power system in real-time, planning for the province's future energy needs, enabling energy efficiency, and designing a more efficient electricity marketplace to support sector evolution. Through the Save on Energy brand, the IESO offers programs and incentives to help individuals and businesses use energy more wisely and achieve greater energy efficiency.
Key 2023 accomplishments include:
Business Programs
- Offered incentives for a range of energy-efficient lighting and refrigeration measures through the Save on Energy Small Business Program, including ENERGY STAR certified lighting options, occupancy sensors, motors for evaporator and condenser fans, strip curtains for walk-in coolers and freezers, and even a web-enabled smart thermostat. In 2023, the incentive threshold for energy-efficient lighting, including ENERGY STAR certified lighting products, increased by an additional $1,000, bringing the total program incentive for free lighting upgrades up to $3,000.
- Launched the Save on Energy Instant Discount Program late in the year to provide upfront, instant point-of sale discounts on a variety of ENERGY STAR certified lighting products that help to lower a businesses’ energy consumption, improve their bottom line and transform their spaces. Instant, point-of-sale discounts are available for existing commercial, agricultural, industrial, institutional, and multi-unit residential buildings and facilities in Ontario that purchase eligible ENERGY STAR certified lighting products from authorized participating distributors/dealers. To date, more than 90 authorized distributors across Ontario are participating in the program and are actively providing businesses with upfront discounts on ENERGY STAR certified lighting.
- The Save on Energy’s flagship business program, the Retrofit Program, offered incentives for retrofits for a large range of measures for lighting, HVAC, and manufacturing and other equipment, many of which are ENERGY STAR certified products.
Residential Programs
- Promoted ENERGY STAR certified LEDs and other energy-efficient products such as refrigerators, freezers and dehumidifiers through Save on Energy’s Energy Affordability Program directed at income-qualified Ontarians. Save on Energy directly installs these products free of charge in the homes of participants who qualify for the comprehensive support program stream. ENERGY STAR certified products are also included in energy-saving kits that are provided free of charge to qualified participants.
- Launched their most impactful measure for the Energy Affordability Program – a cold climate air source heat pump for electrically heated homes. This new measure has a dedicated web page with educational and promotional content for Ontarians to learn more.
- The Save on Energy Peak Perks Program launched in June and provides residential electricity customers in Ontario with central air conditioning, or a heat pump controlled by an eligible smart thermostat, many of which are ENERGY STAR certified devices, with financial rewards to help reduce peak electricity demand on the grid. Since the program launched, approximately 120,000 smart thermostats have enrolled and the program has quickly grown to become the largest demand response program in Canada, and the fastest growing in North America.
- Save on Energy launched the CoolSaver Program in Richview South, Ottawa and York Region Greater Toronto Area (GTA), to help homeowners and tenants upgrade their home cooling systems. Incentives are available for ENERGY STAR certified dehumidifiers, as well as for energy-efficient central air conditioners, smart thermostats, and pool pumps.
- Save on Energy also published buying guides featuring ENERGY STAR certified products on its website, such as heat pumps, central air conditioners, washers and dryers, water and space heaters, furnaces, windows and smart thermostats, to support participation in its residential programs, as well as to help Ontarians make energy-efficient purchasing decisions.

Advocate of the Year – 2024

The Government of Prince Edward Island founded efficiencyPEI in 2008 to increase energy efficiency across the province. This organization is committed to providing Islanders with knowledge, advice and programs that will promote sustainable energy use and encourage the importance of energy efficiency that benefits the economic, social, and environmental well-being of Prince Edward Island residents and the businesses they count on.
Key 2023 accomplishments include:
- Installed ENERGY STAR certified products for 516 low-income islanders as part of the Winter Warming Program.
- Increased participation in the Home Insulation program by providing rebates on ENERGY STAR certified windows and doors, air sealing and building envelope insulation. This includes 1,820 ENERGY STAR certified windows and doors installed.
- Launched the income-qualified Free Heat Pump program with the installation of over 7,000 Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships (NEEP) eligible, ENERGY STAR certified units. This is in addition to 7,080 ENERGY STAR certified heat pumps rebated through efficiencyPEI’s Energy Efficient Equipment Rebate (EEER) program.
- Experienced a 32% increase in the number of clients over last year, with over 1,325 solar program participants.
- Completed two instant savings campaigns, which provided over 40,000 in-store rebates on ENERGY STAR certified products, resulting in 2 gigawatt hours of energy savings.

LG Electronics Canada Inc.

Committed to fighting climate change, LG is dedicated to developing innovative and energy-efficient products, as well as reducing carbon emissions in their manufacturing and business processes through continuous process improvement and sustainable practices.
Key 2023 accomplishments include:
- Executed a robust marketing campaign showcasing LG's ENERGY STAR certified Air Solutions products, raising awareness of the ENERGY STAR program.
- Enhanced LG’s Air Solutions portfolio by introducing new Cold Climate ENERGY STAR certified products, reinforcing dedication to energy efficiency and sustainability.
- Collaborated with national retailers to co-promote and amplify consideration of ENERGY STAR certified products, highlighting LG’s ENERGY STAR certified products.
- Conducted comprehensive training sessions to all partners, including engineers, mechanical contractors, technicians, internal and sales staff, emphasizing the benefits of the ENERGY STAR program and ENERGY STAR certified products, and encouraged the widespread adoption of sustainable solutions.

Special Recognition – 2024
All Weather Windows
Operating for almost 46 years, All Weather Windows is Canada's largest privately owned window and door manufacturer. With customer solution centres in seven cities, close to 800 dealers across Western Canada, and a leading-edge manufacturing plant in Edmonton, AB, the company produces a full range of energy efficient and sustainable window and door products built for Canadian weather.
Key 2023 accomplishments include:
- Continued to offer our customers alternative glass options that provide the same or better ENERGY STAR certification criteria.
- Launched new products that have glazing options and configurations that not only meet but exceed ENERGY STAR certification criteria.
- Acted as a brand advocate that proudly displays the ENERGY STAR logo on company materials.
- Supported end consumer and builder customers in choosing the right ENERGY STAR requirements to ensure they meet the criteria for rebates.

Special Recognition – 2024
Nordik Windows Inc.
Nordik Windows began as a small local company that has since grown to manufacture, sell, and install windows throughout Ontario and Quebec, having recently expanded into international markets, as well. Nordik Windows offers a wide range of energy-efficient windows, with many models earning the ENERGY STAR Most Efficient designation. The organization has been an ENERGY STAR Canada Participant since 2006 and continues to show a strong commitment to energy efficiency in Canada.
In addition to supporting energy efficiency, Nordik Windows Inc. has partnered with a reforestation organization to plant one tree for every window installed, with a total of 116,134 trees to be planted so far.
Key 2023 accomplishments include:
- Acquired two new machines to implement lean manufacturing principles—which include minimizing material waste, maximizing time, and creating the most energy-efficient products into practice.
- Installed radio-frequency identification device (RFID) microchips on window labels to locate the windows easily without losing them during transportation, providing resource and energy savings.
- ENERGY STAR specifications are used as the standard when developing and updating window lines.
- Most windows installed in Canadian households were designated ENERGY STAR Most Efficient.

Building of the Year – Hospital – 2024
Saint John Regional Hospital
Since 1982, Horizon Health Network's Saint John Regional Hospital has been the largest tertiary care hospital in New Brunswick, the primary health care referral centre for the Saint John region, and the major trauma and cardiac care centre for all of New Brunswick. Saint John Regional Hospital operates 24/7 making energy conservation and efficiency a priority, while maintaining and improving patient care. The hospital has been using ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager® since 2016 and in 2018 became the first health care facility in Canada to be certified for its superior energy performance.
Key 2023 accomplishments include:
- Installed a 24-kW solar array for a total of three sets of solar panels.
- Installed two electric vehicle charging stations in addition to the installation of the electrical infrastructure for additional chargers, so that more can be added as usage expands.

Erin Mills Twin Arena is a recreational facility in Mississauga, Ontario. Built in 1985, the arena hosts a variety of ice-skating programs including Learn to Skate, Ice-Hockey, Public Skating, and more. By using ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, Erin Mills Twin Arena has continued to advance its strategic energy management efforts and met ambitious energy efficiency goals.
Key 2023 accomplishments include:
- Optimized building performance using the city of Mississauga’s energy monitoring and fault detection software.

Bliss Carman Middle School, Anglophone West School District (ASD-W)
Built in 2009 and located in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Anglophone West School District’s Bliss Carman Middle School has demonstrated a sustained commitment to improving its energy efficiency. ENERGY STAR resources have been integrated into the school’s energy management program to save energy and provide a valuable awareness tool to involve all staff and students.
Key 2023 accomplishments include:
- Optimized heating and ventilation schedules and monitored space temperatures for optimum efficiency and ideal learning environments.
- Continued use of ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager to monitor changes in the school’s energy use and provide visual feedback of successes.
- Sustained culture of energy awareness and conservation resulting in school satisfaction and pride.
This is Bliss Carman Middle School’s third ENERGY STAR Canada award (2022, 2023 and 2024).
Building of the Year – Mailing Center and Post Office – 2024
LCD PS A Scarborough ON
Operating as a terminal for letter carriers, this Canada Post facility is a Letter Carrier Depot (LCD) located at 155 Ashtonbee Road in Scarborough, Ontario. Constructed in 2013, this 1,800 m2 postal facility is managed by Jones Lang Lasalle (JLL), which leveraged ENERGY STAR resources to drive energy savings and provide leadership across the sector.
Key 2023 accomplishments include:
- Installed a rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system in late 2022, which reduced electricity consumption by about 40%, generating approximately 175 MWh of electricity and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 5.1 metric tons of CO2 equivalent annually. During daylight hours, the solar PV system usually powers the entire site as well as adding electricity to the grid.
- ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager scores were updated bi-monthly, and any deviations were investigated and actioned immediately.
- JLL Energy team conducted periodic silent hours audits to help ensure energy efficiency.
- The building automation system was adjusted as needed to ensure systems and equipment ran only when the building was operational.

Building of the Year – Medical Office – 2024
Etobicoke Wellness Centre
The Etobicoke Wellness Centre was constructed in 2018 as part of the William Osler Health System’s Etobicoke General Hospital Redevelopment Project. Located in Etobicoke, Ontario, the medical office building is home to physicians’ offices, as well as outpatient programs and services. Owned by Morguard and EGH Health Partners Building Limited, the Etobicoke Wellness Centre has improved its operational efficiency by using sustainable innovative design, along with ENERGY STAR tools and resources.
Key 2023 accomplishments include:
- Ongoing adjustments to the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment scheduled for early start-up before peak hours to reduce costs, in addition to continuous preventative maintenance.
- Continued building automation system schedule adjustments based on occupancy.
- Installed LED lighting throughout the building to work with existing HVAC and lighting systems occupancy sensors.
This is Etobicoke Wellness Centre’s second ENERGY STAR Canada award (2023 and 2024).
Building of the Year – Multifamily Housing – 2024
271 Platts Lane
Constructed in 2017, 271 Platts Lane is a multifamily residential building in the Cherryhill neighborhood of London, Ontario. This building features a mix of modern studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom suites for a total of 169 units. This building is owned and operated by BlueStone Properties Inc., which leveraged the ENERGY STAR program to achieve its environmental goals and engaged its residents on energy management best practices. BlueStone Properties is dedicated to upholding environmental responsibility through a comprehensive strategy that resonates with its core values.
Key 2023 accomplishments include:
- Created an Environmental Policy, an Environmental Management Strategy, and a Resident Environmental Communication Strategy to guide actions for sustainable best practices.
- Increased efforts to benchmark energy, as well as continuous training for maintenance staff.
- Installed new LED lights and upgraded all hallway lights.

Commerce South Office Park - Building B is an A Class office property owned by Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada and managed by BGO Properties. Built in 1982, the building is located at 8657 51st Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta. Commerce South Office Park - Building B demonstrated its ongoing commitment to energy efficiency by leveraging ENERGY STAR in its energy management program.

- Continuously monitored the building automation system for ways to increase energy efficiency.
- Conducted energy audits on a regular basis to identify energy-saving opportunities.

This unique office complex is a building composed of nine major constructions, all built between 1912 and 1986. Sun Life Waterloo King continues to demonstrate a longstanding leadership in both setting and exceeding energy efficiency and environmental goals, and promoting best practices using ENERGY STAR tools and resources.
Key 2023 accomplishments include:
- Monitored and implemented regular corrective measures to the building automation system.

Built in 2021, this single-tenant building was built by the Panattoni Development Company and is managed by CAP Ontario Inc. on behalf of the owners. This warehouse has rigorous energy management goals and leverages ENERGY STAR resources to provide leadership across the sector.
Key 2023 accomplishments include:
- Developed a plan to improve the building’s environmental impact and reduce operational costs by improving energy efficiency and reducing carbon.
- Worked closely with the tenant on implementing energy-saving initiatives.
