English
In the Nisga'a language, Anhluut'ukwsim Laxmihl Angwinga'asanskwhl Nisga'a refers to these lava beds and commemorates around 2,000 Nisga'a ancestors who lie buried under the lava flow (c.1750). The Nisga'a say that the volcano erupted because children were showing disrespect to the life-giving salmon. Nisga'a is spoken at home by over 600 people. (Census 2021)
