English

This national park’s name combines words from two Indigenous languages, underscoring the cultural significance of this region: Akami-Uapishkᵁ means “white mountains across” in Innu-aimun, and KakKasuak is an Inuktut word for “mountain.” Innu-aimun is spoken by First Nations throughout Labrador and northeastern Quebec. Inuktitut, an Inuit language, is one of the most widely spoken Indigenous languages in Canada.
