Electric vehicle question, Thierry – Descriptive text

A social media post to NRCan asks: What happens when it’s extremely cold and my car’s battery drains faster?

Thierry, an NRCan EV expert appears on screen.

“That's a great question. So how do EVs perform in the extreme cold is probably the question I get asked the most from family and friends. And while all cars lose some range and performance in the cold weather, whether they're electric or not, we know that EVs can lose 25 to 30% of range in extreme cold temperatures. An EV has plenty of range to meet your everyday driving needs. Given that Canadians drive 60km or less a day, and the average EV can travel up to 450km on one single charge. Even if you lose 30% of range in, you know, the coldest day of winter, you still have enough range to get you where you need to go on your daily driving to the local grocery store, school pick up, to work and so on.”
