Request for Information on Methane Centre of Excellence
Status: Request for information closed November 1, 2022
The Government of Canada has committed to developing a global centre of excellence on methane detection and elimination. Federal departments have been working in partnership to shape options for this new centre and wish to invite perspectives on the opportunities it presents.
Internationally, momentum has been building around initiatives targeting methane measurement, verification, reporting and mitigation. Canada was among the first countries to sign on to the Global Methane Pledge in fall 2021, and is well positioned to advance measures that support emission abatement domestically and abroad. Canada also announced the release of a Methane Strategy on September 23, 2022 to provide a pathway to further reduce methane emissions from across the economy while supporting Canadian technology and creating good-paying jobs.
