Global Forest Leadership Program

Canada’s Global Forest Leadership Program supports activities that expand Canada’s international engagement, collaborations and partnerships, and share Canadian expertise abroad.

This includes support for initiatives that contribute to advancing international forest policy, including those on climate, biodiversity, sustainable forest management, the bioeconomy and wildland fire management; strengthening partnerships with like-minded organizations and countries through sharing expertise and forest stewardship assistance; and decreasing market barriers for sustainable forest products.

These international and domestic initiatives shine a light on the important role forests play in addressing climate and environmental issues, and contribute to the valued role of forests in global policies by:

  • Increasing Canada’s active engagement and contributions to international forest flora and initiatives
  • Working with like-minded partners and demonstrating leadership in support of the Glasgow Leaders’ Declaration on Forests and Land Use
  • Strengthening Canada’s collaboration and approach to forest sector leadership with our international and domestic partners
  • Providing practical and concrete responses to international requests for wildland fire and forest stewardship assistance

As a steward of 9% of the world's forests, Canada is deeply committed to the principles of sustainable forest management, ensuring that Canada’s forests can be maintained for present and future generations.

Canada’s Global Forest Leadership Program was established to help meet its responsibility to share Canadian knowledge and expertise with other global forest policy and management leaders.
